Azbil Wins SICE Technology and New Product Development Awards for 2020
TOKYO, Nov. 30, 2020: Azbil Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange code: 6845) announced that it has received a Technology Award and New Product Development Award for fiscal year 2020 from the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE).
SICE is a core academic society in the fields of measurement, control, and systems. It plays a role in research and in fostering collaboration with related fields and with industry, government, and academia. The Technology Award is for “technical achievements that have produced or implemented new methods, devices, products, etc., and have brought about remarkable results,” while the New Product Development Award recognizes “creation of new products that have contributed to the development of industry.”
Technology Award
For developing a method of adjusting the spectral sensitivity of UV flame detectors
The wavelength at which the advanced ultraviolet sensor of Azbil’s Advanced Ultraviolet Flame Detector is maximally sensitive is determined by the work function of its cathode. A work function has a unique value depending on the type of metal and its crystal orientation. The work function of the cathode has a unique value depending on the material, the arrangement of metal atoms on the electrode’s surface (crystal orientation), and the interaction between different atoms. The newly developed technology enables adjustment of the work function by controlling the crystal orientation and the interaction of different atoms through heat treatment. By adjusting the work function, it is possible to adjust the spectral sensitivity of the ultraviolet flame detector for detection of flame when special fuels are burned.
New Product Development Award
For the electric two-way ACTIVAL™ valve with a flow measurement and control function
This product is equipped with an electric two-way valve that regulates the flow rate of chilled/hot water flowing through air conditioners, and with a flow rate calculation function based on pressure measurement. As a result, even if the difference in pressure between the inlet and outlet of the electric two-way valve fluctuates, the amount of chilled/hot water in each air conditioner can be controlled appropriately, providing comfort and energy efficiency. Additionally, a temperature-sensing function is helpful for understanding the amount of energy used by each air conditioner. Overseas models (sizes 1/2 in. to 6 in.) are now available that can handle large-capacity air conditioners, which in recent years have been in high demand in office buildings, hospitals, and shopping malls in China, South Korea, and Southeast Asia.
