Azbil Recognized by CDP as Supplier Engagement Leader, the Highest Designation in the Supplier Engagement Rating
TOKYO, February 25, 2022: Azbil Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange code 6845) announced that it has been named by the nonprofit environmental organization CDP as a Supplier Engagement Leader, the highest CDP Supplier Engagement Rating. This recognition follows Azbil’s “A List” rating in December 2021 for combating climate change and “A?” for water security.
The Supplier Engagement Rating assesses the extent to which companies effectively cooperate with suppliers to resolve climate change problems from the viewpoint of governance, targets, GHG emissions in the overall supply chain (scope 3), and value chain engagement. In 2021, more than 500 companies (including 105 Japanese companies), which is the top 8% of the approximately 6,300 companies assessed, were selected globally as Supplier Engagement Leaders for their excellent efforts in tackling climate change throughout their supply chain.
As one of its unique SDG-related goals,*1 the azbil Group has set a target of reducing GHG emissions (scope 3) by 20% compared with 2017 (a goal approved by the Science Based Targets initiative [SBTi]*2).
In other measures to address climate change, the azbil Group, based on the idea of environment-integrated management, is tackling global warming through a wide range of action, including energy-saving initiatives that make use of Azbil’s systems and equipment. The azbil Group’s SBTi-approved environmental targets aim to keep global temperature increase below 1.5 °C compared with pre-industrial levels. In addition, the Group supports recommendations by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and on that basis discloses information on governance, strategy, risk management, metrics and targets.
Furthermore, as its unique contribution, the Group offers automation-related products, services, and solutions that help its customers to reduce CO2 emissions at their places of business. By 2030, the Group aims to achieve CO2 reduction*1 of 3.4 million metric tons per year.
Based on its philosophy of “human-centered automation,” the azbil Group strives to fulfill its 2050 long-term vision for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its own business activities to substantially zero while also making contributions “in series” to the achievement of a sustainable society, thereby promoting the Group’s medium-to-long term development and continuous increase in enterprise value.
